Our Accomplishments
The National Art Gallery Committee [NAGC] in Barbados West Indies was established in 1998 by the then Minister of Education, Youth Affairs and Culture, The Hon Mia Mottley under the Chairmanship of the Director of the Barbados Museum and Historical Society.

1997 AICA (International Association of Art Critics) established Southern Caribbean Chapter
1998 AICA Southern Caribbean Symposium held in Barbados during August on the theme Caribbean Art Criticism: Fashioning a Language - Forming a Dialogue.

Identification of the site of the National Art Gallery at The Garrison, Building Block ‘A’ currently occupied by the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC).
Documentation of works in the National Collection and the Barbados Gallery of Art.
Site visits and reviews held with all government ministries, institutions and statutory boards housing National Collection works.
1st Annual Exhibition Work In Progress held at Queen’s Park Gallery during Cultural Heritage Month in collaboration with the National Cultural Foundation May 2001.
New work by Barbadian artist Felix Haynes discovered.
Conservation workshops held for painting and sculpture.
Panel discussion held on curatorship with AICA Southern Caribbean.
Care and Handling Kits prepared for all government ministries and statutory boards housing National Collection works.
Reports prepared for Government on conservation requirements for National Collection works.
Support provided for the CARIFORUM traveling exhibition of Caribbean artists.
Support provided for the Barbados entry to the 4th Biennial, Dominican Republic 2001.
