During the opening of the commemorative exhibition " Art In Barbados..." held at the Barbados Museum in August 1998, the Hon. Mia Mottley, Former Minister of Education, Youth Affairs and Culture announced the formation of a National Art Gallery Planning Committee, to develop plans for the establishment of a new national institution. Ten committee members were selected based on their expertise in specific areas of the project. The Committee members serve under the chairmanship of Alissandra Cummins.
