| Statement |
As I am currently involved in painting sportsmen/women in action, but primarily cricketers, I have moved to an expressionistic style after initally attempting to use the cubist idiom to indicate bodies in movement in space. My decision to refer to the exponents of the expressionistic idiom, like Franz Klimt and Willem de Kooning, gave a more convincing manner of depicting movement and action by bold brush strokes and gestures. Added to this, I saw the human body as enveloped by an energy grid in the shape of a star-tetrahedron, which followed every movement of the body. Colour-wise, to achieve some variety, I base the scheme on the zodiac birth sign of the individual I am painting. All in all, my aim is to express physical movement in a most dynamic and expressive form. |
